Maricopa County Parks spotlights desert hairy scorpion
Maricopa County Parks has issued a feature titled Love the Unloved, highlighting Luisa, the desert hairy scorpion, and Ranger Shaun. The post clarifies, “By it, we mean the desert hairy scorpion, NOT Ranger Shaun.”
The desert hairy scorpion is described as one of the largest scorpions in North America. It spends most of its time tucked safely in burrows and helps control insect populations.
“They’d rather retreat than rumble,” the post says. It adds, “Give them space. Respect their role. The desert works because every creature does its part.”
Maricopa County says it is with Maricopa County Parks at Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area.
